At Horizen Technologies our team is committed to promoting responsible drinking and enhancing safety.
Join Our MissionHorizen Technologies was born in a Cal Poly classroom while exploring disruptive technologies and quickly gained recognition, winning the 2022 Elevator Pitch Competition. From this initial success, Camden and Owen advanced the business through Biomedical and Industrial Engineering senior projects and the Cal Poly Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s (CIE) Summer Accelerator Program. Now Horizen Technologies is a part of the CIE’s two-year Incubator Program where they are focused on developing their innovative technology and growing the business. They are also currently working with Cal Poly student intern teams, having worked with five teams from the School of Business and five from the School of Engineering.

Owen Works (CEO) has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and a minor in Entrepreneurship from Cal Poly. He is currently leading Customer Development and Go-to-Market strategies as a full-time founder. Along with his experience running three successful service businesses, Owen led Horizen Technologies through a 12-week intensive summer accelerator program and is currently growing the startup in a 2-year incubator program through Cal Poly’s Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Camden Ford (CTO) has a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and is a current graduate-level Biomedical Engineering student at Cal Poly, where he leads R&D on the implementation of microfluidic channels into wearable technology to enable efficient collection and transportation of sweat. This research contributes to one of the core components of Horizen Technologies SipSmart device. Camden also led R&D on the analytical chemistry of the device. Outside of his current role, Camden has worked as a mechanical engineering intern and has experience with rapid prototyping.
Horizen Technologies’ mission is deeply personal to both co-founders. Camden, affected by the drinking culture in his fraternity life, and Owen, who has seen the impact of alcoholism in his family, bring a passionate commitment to this venture and harness their combined experiences to drive innovation. They have learned to leverage each other’s strengths and seek support where needed. Their resilience and resourcefulness fuel their enthusiasm as they work towards a solution that empowers individuals to make informed choices about alcohol consumption.
